Al Mohler

Indian Images

 By Kirk Schnitker

Al Mohler did not paint people all that often.  When he did he did some very nice images of Native Americans from up his way near Mille Lacs.

There’s not too much to say about Al Mohlers painting of Native Americans.  Based on stores told Mr. Mohler had a fondness for the Indians from his home area and this is reflected in the only three oils I have seen.  While these images are not the best of his work they are truly unique and reflect the Native American subsistence way of life that Al Mohler had direct contact with for much of his life.

Al Mohler painted what he saw, experienced and enjoyed in life.  Such is true as well in the Native American images he created for us to enjoy today.

This ricing scene is quite nice and one of my favorites.

This is an interesting Mohler of an Indian sneaking up on some deer.

This unique Mohler has it all.  Indians dancing, ricing, netting fish, some ducks and a cheif in headdress.  It is very large at approximately 5' x 3'.  This hung in the Indian reservation offices for many years and was taken down and stored away.
