NEW & DIFFERENT MOHLERS

Al Mohler painted some images over and over and over.  It must have been because of demand.  The trapper’s cabin, Lily Lake and the bear coming over the log are common images.  Also, the size of the piece is typical whether it is on a slab or hardboard.  Every once in a while, a very large slab or hardboard piece shows up.  These are unusual and desirable.  A couple pieces came to mind.  Recently, we acquired a bear slab that is 43” across and a mallards rising off the water that is 39” across.  They are unusually large sizes.  Then there is a deer on hardboard that is 48” across and one of the largest deer scenes we have seen.

Unusual pieces include images that we do not see all that often, or one of a kinds.  Many of these pieces were likely only done one time.  We have been told many times by people that they made a specific request of Mr. Mohler, and he did the piece specifically for them.  One scene that comes to mind is a scene he did for a couple based on a photo they took when they were in Europe.

We like them all, and decided to share some of these new and different works of Al Mohler.

Two Ducks

Here is one of the canvas oils we have seen.

This one is a large 18” x 34” and dated 1922.  An early and scarce piece.

Bear

Here is a typical bear coming over the log image,

but it is unusual in that it is a large 43” wide.

Deer

This piece is unusual for two reasons.

It is a large 48” wide and has an unusual deer scene.

We really like the birch trees.

Deer Hunter & Cabin

This is a favorite of most who see it.

The colors are great and it has a warm almost Redlin look to it.

Loon

We have only seen a few loons done by Mr. Mohler.  A scarce item.

Mallards

This piece is unique image.  It is a large 39” wide which is about 6” wider than most mallards that Mr. Mohler did on slabs.

It is also unique in that the ducks seem to be landing.

Matched Set

Here is a very unusual set of Mohlers.  They are unusual in that the slabs came off the same log and when laid on top of each other, they match.  They are also a large 69” across for the longest slab.  Finally, these scenes are on the different side with trees, ducks, boat and such.  We’re not likely to find such a match set for a while.
